BROCHURE

Chase Park Neuro Centre is a 60 bedded centre based across two separate buildings both overlooking inwards to the beautifully kept Japanese-style accessible gardens and in-house cafe. We are located next to Chase Park and Whickham Town Centre. The grounds, being well set back from any through roads, and the park, provides a tranquil setting for care, therapy and rehabilitation. The building themselves are shaded by tall, mature trees which provide an added benefit as a view out of many external facing room windows.

Chase Park Neuro Centre has an on-site Health Club with facilities that have been specifically designed to be fully accessible for people of all ages and abilities and which are accessible to all visitors. Our 30-bed villa houses living facilities for those with a range of neurological and nursing needs and also has a conservatory that looks directly onto our spacious gardens.

Rehabilitation Suite

Resident’s accommodation and social areas for Neurorehabilitation. The main reception is located here.

Hydrotherapy Pool

Our unique hydrotherapy suite is discreetly situated at the back of the Health Club. We have a hydrotherapy pool, spa whirlpool and accessible changing areas with overhead tracking hoists throughout to assist where required.

Hydrotherapy is the use of water to promote health and healing and uses buoyancy, warmth and the effects of the water’s turbulence (hydro-massage) to help reduce pain, stress and discomfort.

The Therapy Team at Chase Park has accredited hydrotherapy training and finds that many clients enjoy the aquatic environment to make progress, whilst having fun.

Gym area

We have a generous gym area, with different pieces of equipment available, which can be used to support clients with balance, core strength and exercise.

Café area

Our Health Club café provides a selection of hot and cold snacks and beverages and also allows clients, their families and friends to socialise during the morning and afternoon.
Examples of the food served include fresh sandwiches, hot and cold wraps, toasties, as well as jacket potatoes, salads and quiches. We also offer a range of sweet treats including fresh cakes, scones, muffins and biscuits. *Special diets can also be catered for.

CASE STUDY

“The day I first entered the Health Club at Chase Park was the first day I stopped crying in over a year. It was the day I was given HOPE.

In January 2010 I received the devastating diagnosis that I had Motor Neuron Disease (MND). A progressive terminal illness for which there is no cure, 50% of people die within two years. I really didn’t know what I expected in the way of help or support, but I knew there had to be more support than a silent phone.

In 2011 my dark days ended with a visit to Chase Park. I was overwhelmed by the unique facilities as well as the warm welcome I received not only from the charity North East Motor Neuron Disease Trust who would fund my membership (they use Chase Park as a drop-in centre) but also from top management to the grounds men. I was among people who understood neurological illness. I felt safe.

To my amazement I found that in the hydrotherapy pool I could walk unaided. My assigned physiotherapist showed me a range of exercises. The warmth of the pool water makes every movement possible and so much easier than on dry land. Hydrotherapy is not a cure, but I firmly believe coming here and through regular exercise I’ve managed to keep my muscles supple and it’s stopped any muscle waste which is a common problem with MND. In fact, contrary to losing muscle I’ve gained some.

Over the last two years although my confidence of walking unaided in the pool has gone, the joy of walking into the water remains the same, I’ve adapted my exercise regimen to suit.

My diagnosis of being terminally ill is still there, no one can take that away. The progression of my MND is slow, over the years of coming here I’ve learned to live again and take each day as it comes.

The big warm welcoming smiles from Helen and Becca make every visit to Chase Park special, it feels like coming home to family.

Chase Park is most definitely Whickham’s hidden gem!
